Parents Are Part of the Work
At Grow and Bloom Counseling, we believe that parents and caregivers are the most important adult in their child's life. Change that happens only in our office isn't change that lasts. Parents are an integral part of the therapeutic work.
Partnership doesn't mean we report every word your child says. Children and teens — especially teens — need to know their therapy is a place they can be honest. We'll share the general picture, the themes, the progress, and always anything affecting your child's safety, while protecting the private details that allow a therapeutic relationship to succeed. We'll go over exactly how this works before we begin, so there are no surprises.
-
30- or 45-minute sessions without the child present, just parent(s) and therapist
-
How to respond to a meltdown, when to hold a limit, how to help a child through a panic attack, what to do when a child is refusing to attend school, etc.
-
Routines, siblings, school, peer relationships, family dynamics- we’ll figure out how each of these things is affecting the child and work together to make changes as necessary
-
Checking in with pediatricians, psychiatrists, teachers or school counselors, or whoever else is a part of the child’s support team
